Cumbemayo
Cumbemayo is a diverse archaeological complex:
• «Aqueduct», a channel dug into the rock about 30 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 8 km long. Construction time around 1500 BC.
• Caves with many well-preserved rock paintings.
• Sanctuary, a cliff shaped like a human head. In the place corresponding to the mouth, a small grotto has been excavated, containing rock paintings that have not been deciphered to this day.
• Ceremonial altars with stone steps in the platforms at the edge of the canal.
• Stone forest with enormous cliffs of varied and capricious shapes.
The most famous group are the «Frailones», which resemble a silhouette of
monks in a silent procession.
