Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo is one of the most original places in the Urubamba Valley, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Strategically located for observing the valley, it was an important military, religious and agricultural center. One of the few places that looks the same as it did 500 years ago and retains the original structure of the Incas. The descendants of the earlier inhabitants still live in the buildings, houses and palaces of the Incas. Visitors marvel at the winding cobbled streets, ruins scattered throughout, and agricultural terraces. Outstanding among all these sights is the «Templo del Sol» (Sun Temple) with its gigantic monoliths.
