Cuarto del Rescate

The Room of Ransom, «Cuarto del Rescate», is the only remnant of Inca architecture in Cajamarca. It is built in the characteristic shape of the Incas with slightly inclined stone walls. The Inca Atahualpa imprisoned here offered the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro to fill the room twice with silver and once with gold in order to regain his freedom.
